As part of the Philippine Digitization of Local Laws and Ordinances, on April 28, 2023, a training on Wikimedia projects was held in Lingayen, Pangasinan, Philippines. The training, titled “Pangasinan Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon: Improving and Promoting the Pangasinan Wikipedia while growing the Pangasinan Wikimedian Community” was an initial phase for The Philippine Digitization of Local Laws and Ordinances and Pangasinan WikiVoyage. It was headed by Jasverenne Ferrer and Kimberly Manuel in training 30 students of Senior High ICT A, ICT B, ICT C from the Pangasinan National High School.
These training equipped the volunteers with the necessary skills to assist in the quick uploading of the digitized content. They were trained on using platforms like Pangasinan Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons and Wikisource, familiarizing the platform, organizing and uploading the files, adding the correct and accurate metadata, and complying with copyright requirements. The involvement of student volunteers not only expedited the uploading process but also fostered community engagement and knowledge sharing. Their participation contributed to a sense of ownership and pride in preserving local legal heritage, while also promoting broader awareness of the project’s objectives.
