SKAP Officers’ Edit-a-Thon in Collaboration with Wiki Advocates Philippines User Group

On 2023-02-10, a training on Wikimedia projects was held in Lingayen, Pangasinan, Philippines. The training, titled “What the Wiki,” was an initial phase for The Philippine Digitization of Local Laws and Ordinances and Pangasinan WikiVoyage. It was headed by Vanj Padilla and trained 10 students about uploading and best practices for uploading in Wiki Commons, Wikisource, and Wikivoyage.

The training was conducted by Ms. Imelda Brazal and Mr. Anthony Diaz of the Wiki Advocates Philippines User Group. They covered a wide range of topics, including:

  • What is Wikimedia and the different Wikimedia projects
  • How to create a Wikimedia account
  • How to upload files to Wiki Commons
  • How to transcribe texts to Wikisource
  • How to create a travel guide on Wikivoyage

The training was well-received by the participants, who found it informative and engaging. They were especially interested in learning about the different ways to contribute to Wikimedia projects and how to make their uploads more effective.  The “What the Wiki” training is a valuable step towards the digitization of local laws and ordinances in the Philippines and the creation of a comprehensive WikiVoyage guide to Pangasinan. By training people on how to use Wikimedia projects, we can make it easier for them to share their knowledge and contribute to the creation of a free and open information repository for everyone.
